How does iocharger overcome charging load challenges?

July 08, 2022

With the rapid growth of electric vehicles and EV charging equipment, the power grid will face great challenges. In order to meet the demand for charging and protect the safe operation of the power grid, Iocharger has launched Dynamic Load Management solutions for both residential and commercial.

What is Dynamic Load Management?

In the context of EV charging, dynamic load management (or DLM) refers to optimizing a property's charging loads to ensure the most efficient use of the power available between EV Chargers and other appliances on-site and protect local grid network from overloading, without spending on a dime on expensive construction work.

What is iocharger's dynamic load management solution?

Iocharger is providing several levels of load management for residential and public, dynamically balancing the power distribution to the charging stations via software or smart OCPP gateway.

Level 1 - EV Chargers Only

Dynamic Load Management without extra device, supporting up to 252 EV Chargers, which can work either offline or online.

Step 1, Connect a group of EV Chargers in the same LAN network, and configure one charger as the master charger and rest of them as slave chargers,

Step 2, Set a maximum total charging load via master charger web portal,

Now the system controls the charging power of each individual EV Charger automatically.

It can also be live monitored if all the EV Chargers are connected to iocharger OCPP backend system.

Level 2 - EV Chargers & Other Load Appliances

In this mode, dynamic load management considers the grid supply and real-time building consumption to offer the available power to the EV Chargers.

Step 1, Connect a group of EV Chargers in the same LAN network, and configure one charger as the master charger and rest of them as slave chargers,

Step 2, Set a maximum total charging load via master charger web portal,

Step 3, Connect iocharger Gateway Hub/Kiosk to monitor the live consumption of other load appliances via CT clamp or Meter,

Now the system controls the charging power of each individual EV Charger automatically, without causing any overloading to the complete grid network.

For example, Residential dynamic load Management as below,

The system can distribute dynamic power to the EV Charger via monitoring the power consumption of other home appliances.

Level 3 - EV Chargers & Loads & Solar/Battery

This is a typical application of dynamic load management supporting more complex integration of EV chargers, different loads, solar PV system and battery storage.

It can dynamically adjust the optimal charging strategy in real-time, maximize the use of different power sources from the grid, PV system and battery storage.
